GDPR – 25 May 2018

Put this date in your diary! You might also find it helpful to put this website in your favourites – dpreform.org.uk! Why not pop our website in your favourites too whilst you’re at it?!

This is the date by which all companies who collect, process or use personal data within the EU must be complicit with the new General Data Protection Regulations (GDPR). Although this may seem a long way off and the main principles under the these regulations are the same as those under the Data Protection Act 1998, there are numerous new elements and significant changes made by them. So whilst your company’s current data protection practices and policies may be a good starting point, they will need reviewing and building on. And with fines of up to 4% annual worldwide turnover or €20 million, whichever is greater, for serious breaches of the GDPR you really can’t afford to not take action.

The ICO has launched a microsite dpreform.org.uk where you will find the ICO’s GDPR guidance. Whilst we are busy getting our teeth stuck into these regulations and working out the differences between the current law and the GDPR, you may find the ICO’s checklist a good starting point to get you heading in the right direction.
